Abstract
Using FE-calculations of flanged joints as an example, different possibilities for the modelling of bolts divided into classes depending on the exactness of the geometric map and the density of the FE-mesh are presented. Comparisons of FE-calculations with the results of experiments show that good results for the forces, moments and elongation of the bolts can be obtained with relatively small modelling effort. Furthermore, the influence of the limited ductility of high strength bolts on the calculation of the ultimate load of flanged joints is investigated.
