Abstract
About the design concept for compressive fatigue loading of concrete – Safety considerations and potential of further developments. For building structures exposed to fatigue loading, especially for those made from high-strength concrete, the fatigue design is decisive for the structural design. Coincident, nowadays new experimental results exist which demonstrate that further developments of the fatigue design concept are expedient and necessary. The safety concept for fatigue design was assigned from the static design concept. From this approach particularities and challenges arise for the further development of the design concept. In part 1 of this paper an overview of the structure of the fatigue design concept is given and the enclosed parameters are explained. In this paper the S/N-curves are compared with current experimental results and the effect of the design compressive strength of concrete under fatigue loading is demonstrated and discussed in the context of safety considerations. Furthermore, the potential of further developments is pointed out.
