Abstract
Systems nowadays on the market serving the purpose of transforming maps into geo-information systems (GIS) require considerable secondary treatment. The authors of this contribution believe that one reason for this is the fact that these systems generally lack domain-specific knowledge: therefore, they suggest a multi-level model of a large-scale map, which may serve as key for an improoved and more robust automatic map interpretation. The various levels shall be called "semantic objects', "graphics and text', "image graph' and "image'. For the different levels the objects, their properties and the relations between these objects are represented. -from English summary
