Abstract
Frequent product modifications, ever-shorter product life-cycles and ongoing innovations are just some of the challenges companies have to deal with nowadays. Changeable production systems qualify companies to react fast and flexible to these turbulences. But: how changeable is the German industry? And how becomes a production system that changeable that it can win the competition? Up to now, which deficit interfere changeability? These are questions which have been analysed in the research study "Changeable Production Systems". On that basis several needs for action and research have been gathered and, for a start, a few solutions have been identified.
