Abstract
The stratospherically safe refrigerant tetrafluoroethane (R 134a) is a possible substitute for R 12. Following the publication of the first measurements of R 134a's vapor pressure, saturated liquid density, and pressure on five isochores in the gas range, in this work fairly simple equations are formulated by which the following properties in the region important to refrigeration can be calculated: vapor pressure, specific volume, specific enthalpy and specific entropy. These new equations fit the experimental values very well. They must be regarded, however, as preliminary because they rely only on relatively few measurements. For the liquid range, only a few measurements for the saturated liquid are available.
