Abstract

Future surgical techniques will be strongly in-fluenced by current technological and scientific trends within engineering disciplines. It is very like-ly that mechatronics being a multidisciplinary science plays a key-role. This article shows significant trends in mechatronics, including miniaturisation and customisation of products as well as increasing autonomy due to sensors and intelligent algorithms and tries to assess their respec-tive effects on visceral surgery.
