Abstract

A new resonance-regulated testing device operating at a frequency of up to 200 Hz has been developed for very high cycle fatigue tests on large-scale cast iron and steel specimens. The device is able to perform tests on axially loaded plate specimens with a thickness of up to 20 mm and a width of up to 40 mm. It allows testing with a maximum amplitude of 70 kN and a stress ratio of 0.1 ≤ R ≤ 0.5. In this paper, the working principle of the device is shown. Furthermore, the calibration, pretension and testing procedures are presented based on the tests with ductile cast iron specimens (EN-GJS-18C-LT).
