Abstract
This article refers to an area 30 km NW of Hannover, aiming to quantify biological activity mainly by measuring cellulose decomposition, microbial biomass and enzyme activity. Methods are described for the measurement of soil temperature, soil moisture, nutrient content, and cellulose decomposition. Least activity occurred in very acid forest sites, the highest in very wet grassland; cropped areas were intermediate. -D.J.Davis
