Abstract
The measurement of linearity involves some problematic aspects. Other studies have shown that for example the use of non-shielded voltage-dividers can lead to a nonlinear voltage behavior due to the nonlinear distribution of the electric field, Corona discharges or the proximity-effect. The DIN EN 60060-2:2010, respectively the corresponding IEC 60060-2:2010, allows the calibration of Measurement-systems up to 20 % of the measurement range of the measurement system under test. This is applied if the voltage range of the system under test exceeds the voltage range of the reference measurement system, where the full range of the reference system is used which corresponds to at least 20 % of the range of the device under test. All measurements above this voltage level can be measured with a non-traceable measurement system if its linearity is proven. Especially with the outlook of increasing voltages in energy grids in mind the necessity of measurement equipment with higher voltage capabilities can be underlined. In this context the Schering Institute of the Leibniz University Hannover led an investigation on the performance of several field probes in linearity measurements. This work brought up a possibility to get consistent and linear results using a rod antenna as a field probe. This work will be continued with cooperation on the National Metrology Institute of Germany, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, which is the subject of this paper.
