Abstract

In order to improve the condition assessment of transformers, the influence of different paper-oil weight ratios of a new type of inhibited insulating oil was investigated in this research work, although there is still relatively little experience of this insulating oil in connection with paper ageing. The ageing period was 14 weeks, whereby the samples were thermally accelerated aged with the simulation of a free breathing system. In order to investigate the influence of temperature on the formation of ageing markers, ageing was carried out at two different temperatures, 110 °C and 130 °C. The two paper-oil weight ratios, which have been investigated, were 1:5 and 1:20. The results obtained show that the weight ratio had no influence on the ageing rate of the paper. However, the ratio as well as the temperature do have an effect on the formation of some ageing markers, which is of decisive importance for the indirect assessment of the condition of the paper insulation, by means of the examination of oil samples.
