Abstract
In the simulation of the transient behaviour of electrical drives the question arises, whether and how the influence of changing saturation has to be taken into account. In this paper, the influence of saturation due to the machine's main field on the peak values of quantities occuring during transients is examined for the case of a system transfer of a blower drive. It is shown that the main field saturation has an important influence on the peak torques. Moreover, different methods to include the main field saturation into the simulation are compared. It is shown that a simple tracking of the inductances leads to nearly identical results with the (physically exact) solution of the complete derivative of the flux linkage of each coil, if, simultaneously to the tracking of the inductances, the instantaneous values of the currents are also changed in the way that the flux of each winding remains constant. This method leads to a drastic reduction of computation time. Tracking the inductances without changing the currents leads to totally wrong results.
