Abstract

TRR 277: additive manufacturing in construction. The construction industry is one of the least digitalised sectors of the economy to date. In contrast to other production sectors, the production of buildings is characterised by individualised construction processes. Digital production techniques from other branches of the economy have not become established in the construction industry because they do not allow the necessary individualisation or are uneconomical. The advantages of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are that automation and customisation are not contradictory, and 3-D printing builds material only where it is structurally or functionally necessary. Additive manufacturing is therefore both economical and resource-efficient. The DFG Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio TRR 277 of the two universities TU Braunschweig and TU Munich wants to research the technology of additive manufacturing fundamentally for the construction industry and also contribute to the digitisation of the construction industry. This article gives an overview of the goals, structure and methods of the TRR 277 and its three focus areas with its 18 scientific research projects.
