Abstract
Against the background of the high greenhouse gas emissions attributable to the construction industry, building with concrete, reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete in particular is facing significant challenges. The German Committee for Structural Concrete (DAfStb) has set itself the goal of supporting concrete construction to be climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest. In the form of a roadmap, it defines which research activities and regulatory projects are to be used to realise specific goals on this pathway. The Technical Committee for Sustainable Building with Concrete (TA NBB), founded in 2021, was tasked with developing projects to realise these goals. In addition to presenting the main hurdles and obstacles that the members of the TA NBB see on the way to increasing the sustainability of concrete construction, this article will discuss the development and main contents of Parts 1 and 2 of the guideline “Greenhouse gas-reduced load-bearing structures made of concrete, reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete”, which were recently finalised by the TA NBB.
