Abstract
Many methods of non-destructive testing apply ultrasonic techniques. Among others, the ultrasonic inspection is used for non-destructive delamination detection of wood-based materials. To analyze and optimize this process it is necessary to have a better understanding of the sound propagation. In order to visualize the transient propagation behavior of the ultrasonic waves, the refracto-vibrometry can be used. The refracto-vibrometry characterize and visualize sound waves in transparent media. Its major advantage is that no additional objects have to be placed in the sound field, so that a reaction to the sound propagation is avoided. Through this method it is possible to visualize the transient sound propagation as a two dimensional projection. The refracto-vibrometry was used to obtain qualitative insights of transient acoustic wave propagation. In addition optimizations for the measuring system have been shown and checked. Furthermore the results are the basis for further optimization steps and the validation of simulations.
