Abstract
Electrical and magnetic properties and near-infrared absorption spectra of NbO2.5-x (0.0≤x≤0.083) are discussed on the basis of new near-infrared reflectivity data. These data reveal metallic-like behaviour for the NbO2.5-x block-type compounds if the electric field vector is polarized along the block columns in agreement with the conductivity behaviour. In contrast, the reflectivity shows insulator-like behaviour perpendicular to the block columns and, therefore, implies quasi-one-dimensional properties of the charge carrier system.
