Abstract
The desirability of adaptation of beam pattern to road situation by means of tomorrow's intelligent headlamps leads to highly integrated front-end engineering concepts. Realization of these concepts is only feasible within a synergetic framework integrating visual, electronic and mechanical components, which must also be designed to fit within an ever-smaller structural space. Products already on the market include systems for automatic dynamic headlamp levelling, electronic light switching modules, etc... These are examples of the approaches coming years will see developed on the way to the market launch of intelligent headlamps. Special aspects will include: - Creation of new headlamp concepts for modular light distribution systems - sensor technology for gathering information on the roadway space - Development of mechatronics for manipulation of optical components In addition to the theoretical formulations, prototypes featuring innovative aspects have already been demonstrated.
