Abstract
The present contribution gives a brief survey of some early geoid/quasigeoid determinations for Europe. Then the present activities on the computation of an improved European quasigeoid model at the Institut für Erdmessung, University of Hannover, are described. IfE acts in this project, which is supported by the Geoid Subcommission for Europe of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), as the computing center. Finally some suggestions for future improvements on the data and modeling side are discussed.
