Abstract
A spatially and temporally resolved study of carrier-sweep-out in photoconductive switches was presented. The study included streak camera experiments on the switches and measurements of luminescence profiles, and the spatio-temporal dynamics of the charge carriers and the electric field. The field reduced the luminescence at the cathode side and slightly shifted the maximum towards the anode due to the screening by the optically excited carriers. A partial field recovery due to the reduction of the carrier density resulting from the recombination and carrier sweep-out was observed.
