Abstract
An overview is given on the factors to be considered for the selection of a proper frequency range for high-voltage ac (HVAC) on-site testing of extruded insulation cable systems. This is done from the viewpoint of the breakdown mechanism of the cable insulation, taking into consideration different types of typical insulation defects.
