Abstract

The state-of-the-art European post-academic research, focusing on a number issues relating to secondary clarifiers are discussed by the European young academics clarifier group. Secondary clarifiers have been an integral part of most wastewater treatment facilities built over the past few decades, and are therefore widely spread around the globe. Despite this, there are often considered to be the weakest link in the entire wastewater treatment process. A significant improvement in the clarification performance, removing the need for an extra filtration step, would certainly bring about a bright future for secondary clarifiers.
