Abstract
The objective of this paper is to describe the load bearing behavior of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) tubes with steel sheathing under compression. The effect of different methods to increase the ductility will be presented as well as advices for the transference to building-practical applications. Results of an extensive test program on axial loaded tube specimens will be presented using geometrical and material variations to offer important findings for light-weight structures of UHPC. Concrete technological properties of UHPC (e.g. autogenous shrinkage) show influences on the load carrying behavior and will be highlighted as well as comparatively to tube structures with normal strength concrete. Furthermore a new developed engineering model to forecast the ultimate and residual load capacity of axial loaded UHPC-tubes with steel sheathing will be presented.
