Abstract
The application and advantages of modern microelectronics in the concrete building structures is discussed. Microelectronics affects concrete properties such as mechanical strength or durability and robots handling building construction work. Microelectronics is applied to fields such as concrete quality assurance system, memory chips to store relevant data of the concrete construction, monitoring and remote diagnosis through webcams and digital cameras, and use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to design smart construction systems. The potential applications of microelectronics in concrete structures is enhancement of the quality of concrete structures and improving the state of health or physical condition of a building. It is recommended that technical problems in applying microelectronics in concrete structures are addressed by solving reliability issues and legal aspects of concrete construction.
