Abstract
In this paper current results of tire/road noise simulations will be shown. This research is part of the German project "Leiser Straß enverkehr" (silent traffic) and concentrates on the physically based modelling of dynamic phenomena of tire and road combinations with respect to sound radiation. The aim is the conception of computational methods for the prediction of noise levels during the development process of new tires and roads. The simulation includes detailed finite element analysis of stationary rolling, modal analysis of gyroscopic systems, excitation with roughness of road surfaces and sound radiation. For the validation of the model measurements of different tires and roads are used. These incorporate shaker tests of the standing tire and acoustics of tires rolling on a drum at different speeds. The same set-ups are applied to the simulation for the comparison of both transfer functions of structural dynamics and sound pressure levels.
