Abstract

In the context of planetary exploration, the MIMOS II (miniaturised Mössbauer spectrometer) has proven to be a reliable measuring instrument with a service life of several years, including on Mars. This paper deals with the development of a photo diode amplifier unit for measuring the radiation in MIMOS II. The system behavior leads to a bandpass with cut-off frequencies between 101 Hz and 107 Hz, which is suitable for radiation measurements. The circuit design is also converted into a simulation model using MATLAB/SIMULINK, thus enabling the advantages and disadvantages to be weighed up against other simulated circuits in order to optimise MIMOS II for terrestrial and extraterrestrial measurements.
