Abstract
This paper presents a novel method for detecting open circuit faults in electric drive systems. The method is based on oversampling of the phase currents during the zero voltage vector. It is independent from any parameter sensitivity and current sensor errors. Furthermore, the detection can be done within the next sampling time after the occurence of the fault. It allows a determination of the back EMF at every operating point. Test bench measurements demonstrate the functionality of the method.
