Abstract
Recent techniques for characterization of the cell-reactor system are presented, especially online techniques for measurement of three-phase fluid properties, for chemical analysis of the composition of the fermentation medium and the gas phase, and for determination of the cell concentration as well as for the evaluation of the intracellular components and the biological behavior of the cells. Optimization of the sampling point and the sensor arrangement for the measurement of the above properties are also considered.
