Abstract

In this paper, we examine and discuss the role of dissipativity in economic model predictive control. We review some recent results relating dissipativity with the concept of optimal steady-state operation, and we show that strict dissipativity is necessary and suffcient for a slightly stronger property than optimal steady-state operation. We discuss the importance of this result for giving closed-loop performance guarantees in economic MPC. Furthermore, we present extensions for the case of optimal periodic operation.
