Abstract
Self-intersections and limiting motion of curves moved by the intermediate surface diffusion flow were discussed. A rigorous proof of convergence of the solution curve of the intermediate surface diffusion flow equation to that of the averaged curvature flow equation was given. It was also proved that a self-intersection of curves could be developed by the intermediate surface diffusion flow for any positive value of diffusion coefficient.
