Abstract

With the help of the forming process of draw bending, a very wide range of profile components with variable cross sections can be established by using only one forming system and only one tool set. A local heat treatment can be used for a partial adjustment of the strength in the corresponding areas of the component at the same weight. This paper focuses on the simulation-based design of a combined draw bending process with a built-in heat treatment. Information regarding the process parameters and appropriate heating and cooling strategies could be provided with the help of FE calculations of the entire procedure before the design and construction phase of the experimental setup. Finally, the calculated designed process was experimentally achieved and validated.
