Abstract
The upheaval in industry and in the private sector towards electrification and mobilisation is associated with the increasing use of electric motors, for example in cars, bicycles, robots, wheelchairs and also in the aircraft industry. In order to meet the increasing demand and the requirements, further development of the production technology for e-motors is required. This development includes the quality and service life, especially of the winding insulation. This study presents a novel testing method for insulation materials used for e-mobility. In this regard, twisted enamelled wires are prepared. The partial discharge inception voltage and breakdown voltage were measured for this samples inside a water bath as a novel but simple measurement method. The investigations were performed for three differently insulated enamelled wires. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to determine the electrical properties of magnet wire after different ageing times and to evaluate them with regard to a possible use as winding insulation in electric motors. Furthermore the advantages and disadvantages of the new test method are presented and discussed.
