Abstract
Today attractive concrete is mostly required as smooth and homogeneous concrete surface without pores. In order to characterize different requirements, guidelines for exposed concrete have been published by the Deutscher Beton- und Bautechnikverein (DBV) and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Zementindustrie (BDZ). These guidelines include recommendations for texture, porosity, constancy of the colour shade, evenness, construction joint and classes of the formwork material. With these individual criteria and the overall impression of a building attractive concrete can be divided into four classes of requirements. During a joint research project "Attractive Concrete" which was supported by the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations "Otto von Guericke" e.V. (AiF) different research centres were involved. The research activities lead-managed by the German Cement Works Association (VDZ) and the German Concrete and Construction Engineering Association (DBV) of the first phase are finished, the second phase is still going on concentrating on practical executions of attractive concrete. This paper will give a review about present research results.
