Abstract
In this contribution a new method for the characterization of lightning impulses superimposed with oscillations and overshoot is presented. The proposal bases on experimental investigation on lightning impulse tests performed with different electric media in the framework of an European project. The procedure is demonstrated with both measured data and data from the IEC-TDG. The new procedure leads to unambiguous results for the impulse parameters and may be used in future to solve the existing problems with oscillations and overshoots on lightning impulses.
