Abstract
The growth of the fungus Trichoderma reesei Rut C30 on cellulosic materials, especially potato pulp, and the enzyme synthesis in batch and fed-batch cultures were investigated by Klingspohn (1990). Based on these experimental data, a comprehensive model was set up describing the uptake of substrate for growth, maintenance and enzyme synthesis including the enzymatic hydrolysis of the substrate (Bader, 1991). The model equations consist of non-linear systems of ordinary differential and algebraic equations. The model parameters were identified by means of the experimental results. The simulation results correspond well with the experimental data. Model computations for different operational conditions show the range of validity and the performance of the model. Possibilities of improvements of the yield and productivity can be deducted.
