Abstract
Large companies have the capacity and financial freedom to use modern software tools for process planning and optimisation (CAM - computer aided manufacturing, NC simulation). In contrast to this small and medium-sized companies often have insufficient know-how and resources to initialise a simulation based process chain for tool-path planning. Moreover, companies implementing a digital factory assembled by individual but highly interrelated solutions are provided assistance for each single product but not for the entire digital process chain. This article presents a solutions-based approach for small and medium-sized companies to utilise know-how in the area of simulation-based production planning by means of hybrid products offered by vendors of the digital factory. In this context, a hybrid product is a customised package consisting of traditional products, e.g. machines and software, and services designed and offered by several cooperating companies aiming a smooth and fast realisation of complex business processes.
