Abstract

The Maneuver Coordination Service (MCS) is currently undergoing standardization by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). This service will give connected vehicles the opportunity to share their planned, desired, and suggested trajectories while traveling on the road. While MCS will share channel bandwidth with other services and road users, it is crucial to conserve the sent data to the most important ones for the channel's economy. In this work, we present a message generation technique based on the Value of Information of the vehicle's planned trajectory. We implement the proposed approach in a simulator and compare it to other rule-based and fixed-frequency message generation techniques. We test these approaches in an urban scenario and the results show that our proposed algorithm delivers a better channel busy ratio compared to other message generation techniques without sacrificing precision in object tracking.
