Abstract
In 2012 the German transplantation law (TPG) was amended. It put a stronger focus on the informed consent of donors and their relatives to promote organ donation within the general public. In the same year some transplantation centres were accused for data manipulations to avoid the severely defined allocation rules for patients on the waiting list. By the hereby caused loss of trust in the system, the number of organ donations decreased nationwide and reached the lowest level ever since 2002. This negative trend is still continuing in 2013. As a consequence also criticism increases discussing the selection of organ donors, the diagnosis of brain death as well as the correct allocation of the donated organs to the organ recipients. The following article presents measures that will lead to more transparency in organ transplantation and eventually help re-establish public trust in the entire system. Some decisions already have been taken, others are on the way.
