Abstract

In line with the globalization of the consulting sector, German geotechnical companies are increasingly involved with projects in the Loess regions of Eastern Europe and Asia. In these regions the phenomenon of "Sagging of Loess" is of particular importance. This article provides an outline of the current state of engineering-geological research on: (i) the triggering mechanisms of the process of sagging, (ii) the possibilities for its experimental determination as well as (iii) methods for calculation and prevention of sagging.
