Abstract
The main focus of planning a production system is a high economic efficiency. Lean Production and transformability are two proven approaches, which have achieved worldwide acceptation. They are based on different aspects and are discussed therefore controversially. In a research project, aided by the "Stiftung Industrieforschung", the two approaches are combined to a methodology in order to use the advantages of both approaches. This leads to an optimal positioning of a company in respect to waste of resources and creating the potential to handle future changes. Through this especially small and middle sized companies are enabled to optimize their funds and to reduce the planning effort.
