Abstract
In this paper the results of a survey of 43 manufacturing SMEs are presented regarding a software-based production planning with particular emphasis on employee skills in the production area. It is shown that the capabilities for the "resource" production workers are currently often insufficiently integrated within planning systems. The surveyed companies estimate that companies, using planning systems which better support workforce management with emphasis on the competencies, can save round about € 160,000 / year.
