Abstract

During product development, many decisions have to be made which affect the entire product life cycle. In order to check whether the product meets the requirements, design reviews are carried out. One difficulty here is the sustainable storage and application of decentralized expert knowledge. To support the engineer proactively in the design process, design support systems are used. As these activities are usually knowledge-intensive, systems are needed that can make inferences based on knowledge. In this paper, an approach is considered by investigating the use of multi-agent systems for the evaluation of designs according to design guidelines and standards for machine elements. For this purpose, a multi-agent system with its own communication server and an interface to a CAD program is built. A gear shaft, which transmits a torque via a pulley and is provided with two bearings, serves as an application example for rotational parts.
