Abstract
The influence of different mooring components on the motion of a simple, floating structure is investigated against the background of the motion behavior of a floating wave energy converter. The requirements for floating wave energy converters’ mooring systems differ from those of offshore Oil & Gas platforms. On the one hand, the mooring system needs to have a certain stiffness for the station keeping, on the other hand its influence on the motion of the wave energy converter should be minimized. Therefore, on a basis of a simple catenary mooring different chain weights, lump weights and midline floats were installed and their influence on the motion response of the floating structure was investigated.
