Abstract
One important issue conceming the long-term resistance and durability of concrete structures is the fatigue damage caused by cyclic loading. Several experimental investigations to examine the influence of fibre reinforcement on the fatigue behaviour were carried out at the Institute of Building Materials Science, Leibniz University Hannover. An increase in the ultimate numbers of cycles to failure due to the fibre reinforcement could not be determined. However, the strain development of the fibre reinforced concrete shows an advantageous behaviour conceming the prior indications of filure. In this paper, the experimental and theoretical investigations on the fatigue behaviour of plain and fibre reinforced concretes are described, and the results of the experimental tests and the effects of the fibre reinforcement on the fatigue behaviour observed are presented.
