Abstract
Degradation models for concrete used in life-cycle engineering have shown a significant dependence on specific material properties, and therefore model input parameters. Generally, these model parameters are derived from scientific literature based on standard laboratory tests. However, the best altemative to get realistic results is to use rarely available in situ data from construction sites. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the impact of construction site conditions on the material properties of concrete and its related effects on the durability of structures. For this purpose, standard laboratory tests dealing with chloride migration were performed, in which the preparation and curing of test specimens were modified in order to simulate the in situ construction site conditions. The study included concretes with different w/c-ratios under simulated winter and summer conditions. The results of the study show a significant negative effect on the durability properties as a consequence of the simulated construction site conditions. Based on these findings, the impact of on-site conditions on the service life is investigated by means of probability-based durability analysis.
