Abstract
Usability-based assessment of SAR systems is costly if based on human evaluation. We intend to find algorithms to assist this evaluation. The system component investigated here is the coding. Images of different qualities were generated by JPEG and HEVC. Experts performed tasks on the images at different display resolutions. The top-rated coder configu-rations and the influence of the display resolution were determined. Best performed a HEVC with quantization Q = 29 (high quality) using a decimated image with spatial resolution of 22cm, with zoom out factor 2 for vehicles, 4 for ships.
