Abstract

Molecular alignment control in high density vapors of CS2, hexane and N2 was attempted using the electric field of a 300 ps duration laser pulse. This was sufficient to study the molecular alignment dependence of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) using a second, 70 fs duration laser pulse of intensity ∼5x1014W cm-2. The results are explained by considering the influence of an anisotropic dipole phase.
