Abstract
Work pieces and components containing information on their manufacturing that are tracking their way across the shop floor autonomously as well as chassis components constantly monitoring their condition and initiating an inspection independently if required, may sound like visions of the future, but will become real within the program of the Collaborative Research Center 653 "Gentelligent Components in their Lifecycle - Utilization of Inheritable Component Inherent Information in Production Engineering".
