Abstract
The three dimensional rolling contact of elastic bodies is simulated numerically by a finite element approach. The relative kinematics is described by an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian description. Special emphasis has to be laid onto the tangential contact condition because the slip, i.e. the relative tangential displacement of the contacting particles, is not obtained a priory. Numerical examples from the railway wheel rolling on the rail underline the applicability of the suggested method.
