Abstract
Fatigue assessment is essential for all components of wind turbines because of the high dynamic loads. The complex carrying behaviour of bolted ring flanges makes the calculation of this popular connection particularly difficult. This paper deals with experimental and numerical investigations that were conducted on parts of original ring flanges in the laboratory and in operating wind turbines. The correlation between external load and stresses in the bolt, loss of pretension because of settlement effects and fatigue resistance of the bolt were investigated.
