Abstract
This report illustrates the background of the code DASt-Richtline 019 (German Committee for Steel Construction Guideline 019) "Fire Safety of Steel and Composite Structural Elements in Office Buildings". The assessmerit concept is based on the time equivalence method and the probabilistic safety concept. A performance based design is realised based on natural fire scenarios. All the relevant parameters defined in the code, like fire load density and safety factors, are described in detail. A simple approach is given for a particular type of building of small height. In a parametric study the requirements concerning the fire resistance according to the new code are evaluated taking into account different building sizes and heights and compared to the requirements of actual building regulations. Thereby, the scope of application is identified, where the new code will provide improvements.
