Abstract

German universities ofer several international Master Programmes in the ield of water resources management. These programmes are very attractive for students from developing countries. Assuming that the graduates will continue their career in a developing country or in an international organization, such Master programmes can contribute to capacity development. Leibniz Universität Hannover started the international Master programme "Water Resources and Environmental Management (WATENV)" in 2009. In this paper irst experiences with this programme are presented. In particular the admission procedure and the work with the students are much diferent from the inland programmes. The curriculum is more development-related, and it contains modules for the training of soft skills. The interaction between the national and the international programmes helps to improve the interconnectedness and the development competence of the German students.
